Dhyani Buddha guards a corner at Phra Mondop
Phra Mondop, at Wat Phra Kaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) inside the grounds of the Grand Palace, Bangkok. This building--guarded by five-headed Nagas (snakes) with human faces at the doors, and replicas of early ninth-century Dhyani Buddhas from Candi Plaosan in central Java at the corners--houses the repository for the Pali Canons. The exterior walls are green mirrored tiles inlaid with gold medallions depicting the Buddha.
