Scenic Simba Campground at the rim of Ngorongoro Crater gets common wildlife traffic
Three zebra wander through Simba Campground at the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. In the early evening, a large lone bull elephant often drops in to drink out of the water tank (blocking access to and from a set of outhouses). Nothing is more frightening than getting the evil eye from a 12ft tall, 6 ton wild animal standing about 30 ft away. Everyone we spoke to agreed that the elephant was the most dangerous and terrifying animal in Africa. Considering how many dangerous and terrifying animals there are in Africa, that's saying quite a lot. This campsite was the only place we stayed in East Africa that wasn't surrounded by a fence.
